Systems Accountability Office

SAO provides extensive support related to departmental planning, analysis, evaluation, and student testing to the Superintendent of Education, Board of Education, schools, the Governor, the Legislature, executive agencies, business partners, and the public. Specifically, SAO oversees the development and administration of three large-scale assessments, school evaluation, program improvement, and system evaluation components of the Department's accountability system.

The Systems Accountability Office (SAO) is one of seven offices placed organizationally under the Office of the Superintendent. SAO, formerly known as the Planning and Evaluation Office, was created to provide for a coherent, effective, and sound accountability system within the Department of Education. Currently, SAO is comprised of three sections:
